Responding to a Racist Rant . . .

Some things you can’t ignore

I don’t usually respond to hateful words, but I found a bigoted rant in my email that was so blunt and venomous that I decided to dissect the message in order to see what made the writer tick.

I found no surprises. The ravings of the author (printed in red, below) represent typical examples of the same type of prejudice that I grew up with in the south. That’s when I decided to respond to their message point by point, if only to settle the faint ghostly echoes from a southern past hiding away in my own subconscious.

I apologize in advance if I am too long winded in my responses, but truth needs a strong foundation if it is to have any lasting impact. That said, let us begin.

The rant starts off with the statement:

Well, I am not and, most likely, neither is the author. As Americans, most “whites” are a mixture of races that have been going to bed together for over 500 years, and that’s not counting all the European hanky-panky that went on before that.

> I have been wondering about why Whites are racists,
> and no other race is.

That’s not a true statement. Racial intolerance is at the root of many of the world’s biggest problems and its standard bearers come from many cultures and races. The key is that they are all TAUGHT to hate by their elders. Cultures, like children, learn by example.

> There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian
> Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are
> just Ameri- cans.

Actually, your parents and/or grandparents probably affiliated strongly with their country of origin, even if you don’t. They most likely lived in a part of town where others of their culture also resided, especially if they were immigrants.

The fact that you are rootless and a generation removed from any knowledge of your own traditions does not put you in a superior position. It just makes you ignorant.

> You pass me on the street and sneer
> in my direction.

No, I don’t. And to generalize that I would sneer at you based upon race is a reflection of your own heart that is, errrrr… Racist.

> You call me ‘White boy,’ ‘Cracker,’
> ‘Honkey,’ ‘Whitey,’ ‘Caveman’

No, I don’t, and those that do are bigots.

> … and that’s OK.

No, it’s not OK, and our society does NOT tell you that it is. Those are expressions of hatred and fear.

> But when I call you Nigger, Spick, Kike, Towel head,
> Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink … You call me a
> racist.

When a bigot on one side hollers at a bigot on the other side, neither side is right and both are simply jackasses braying at each other across a fence. Which settles nothing and usually just makes matters worse.

> You say that whites commit a lot of violence
> against you… so why are the ghettos the most
> dangerous places to live?

Worldwide, wherever the poorest are, there shall also be crime. This is a truth without regard to race, creed, country or religion.

In America, many ghettos (and reservations) are full of people who are literally kept poor through a series of government handouts and entitlements that have, in effect, encouraged dissolution of family values and discouraged any work ethic. And this has been going on for at least 3 or 4 generations.

THAT’S why ghettos are so dangerous.

> You have the United Negro College Fund. You have
> Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month.
> You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah.
> You have Ma’uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have
> BET…

You have Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, Christmas, Easter,  President’s Day, Pat Boone, Santa Claus, the Supreme Court, total control of the legislative branch of the government, 90% of the lobbyists and most if not all of the labor unions. Ohh, and you’ve even tried to steal the very heritage from Jesus, giving him brown hair and blue eyes.

> If we had WET (White Entertainment Television),
> we’d be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you
> would call us racists. If we had White History Month,
> we’d be racists.

You don’t need to paint “white” on your signs because you already have control over the majority of institutions in this country. White culture controls the media, almost all corporations and most of the major entertainment venues.

> If we had any organization for only whites to
> ‘advance’ OUR, lives we’d be racists.

That would simply be redundant. The playing field comes pre-biased in favor of white culture already. If you are white and are not personally seeing a benefit from the system, then you are likely to be an underachiever who never really investigated what opportunities were out there for you.

Slackers and losers always pretend to have someone to blame when they are shut out from the low hanging fruit… and it’s never themselves.

> We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black
> Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain
> Chamber of Commerce.
> Wonder who pays for that??

All of those organizations are self-supporting. What’s your point?

> A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American
> pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America
> pageant.

When the Miss Black America contest was founded, a person of color could still not enter the Miss America contest. Sure, blacks can be “in it” now but count the number of times there’s been a Miss America contest and then count the number of winners that were black.

The Miss America pageant’s long history of excluding women of color dates from its beginnings. At some point in the 1930s, it was formalized in the notorious rule number seven of the Miss America rule book, which stated that “contestants must be of good health and of the white race.” This rule stood for nearly two decades.

> If we had a college fund that only gave white students
> scholarships …You know we’d be racists.

The point should not be to exclude others unlike yourself from a higher education, it should be to INCLUDE EVERYONE that is willing to WORK for it.

You do have a partially valid observation regarding scholarship awards to minorities, but the situation is improving. Over the last five or six years conservative watchdog groups like the Center for Equal Opportunity (CEO) have called the University of Michigan, Southern Illinois University, and SUNY on the carpet for (reverse) racial discrimination in their admissions practices. At question were the scholarships restricted to minorities. In response to the threat of legal action, all have revamped their “minority” and female-focused scholarships to include white students and males.

> There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in
> the US . Yet if there were ‘White colleges’ That would
> be a racist college.

Every one of those “black colleges” accepts and welcomes white applicants. Many are even more receptive to whites because of the “minority status” of the applicant.

There are over 1600 institutions of higher learning in the USA. Many have special purposes as part of their mission statement. Do “bible colleges” mean we are, as a culture, discriminating against Buddists? Do women’s colleges mean that men are being neglected by our universities? Quite the contrary. It is because women and minorities are being underserved that these specialized institutions even exist.

> In the Million Man March, you believed that you were
> marching for your race and rights.
> If we marched for our race and rights, you would call
> us racists.

The Million Man March was a call to restore unity to a culture that has become fractured. You would have been welcome, had you shown up.

> You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange,
> and you’re not afraid to announce it.
> But when we announce our white pride, you call us
> racists.

Throughout history your “white pride” has been associated with the oft times brutal repression of those different from yourself. When “the guys on top” in any culture form exclusionary organizations, you can be sure that it’s not for the common good.

> You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us.

This comment distorts the entire crime picture and mistakenly places singular blame when the reality is a much more complex situation.

Our society is facing disintegration from within and UNITY is the only glue that will hold through the storm. As long as we use our fingers to point blame, our hands are useless.

> But, when a
> white police officer shoots a black gang member or
> beats up a black drug- dealer running from the law and
> posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

There will always be those who take the low road. That applies to cops, to criminals, and to the arm-chair generals, such as yourself, making sweeping judgments out of ignorance.

> I am proud… But you call me a racist.

If you get this charge thrown at you a lot then maybe the real problem might be with you instead of everyone else. Perhaps there are traits that “out you” and you don’t even realize you’re doing it, such as speaking in terms of “black and white” while peppering your speech with polarizing “us and them” statements.

> Why is it that only whites can be racists??

I disagree with this statement, and so does The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th Edition.

Any exclusionary race (or culture) can demonstrate traits consistent with racism. Man has an extraordinary ability to find ways to divide us from each other. For some, it is race, for others a caste system separates, still others unfurl the bloody banner of religious intolerance.

> There is nothing improper about this e-mail. Let’s see
> which of you is proud enough to send it on. I sadly
> don’t think many will.

I will happily forward this email on. I believe that your brand of thinking needs to be exposed for what it is; hate filled rhetoric served up for those who would rather have someone to blame than to improve their own lot in life.

> That’s why we have lost most of
> OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won’t stand up for
> ourselves!

While there’s certainly a degree of truth in that statement, you don’t make your circle wide enough. Your “we” doesn’t include “me”.

> It’s not a crime yet . but getting really close

I’m proud to be in the HUMAN race, even with you in it!

Now lets examine YOU for a bit. It’s clear from your statements that, for all your ranting and truth-claiming, you do NOT represent “White America” any more than David Duke does. You are simply vocalizing the groans of a minority of losers that are angry because they can’t seem to measure up, even when their own race and culture gets the vast majority of the breaks.

I would further guess that you are a card carrying member of that bloated, overvocalized, underclass known as “underachieving white America” that is angry because you didn’t get your perceived share of the  handouts. Your waistline is popping your belt loose while you complain about how poor you are. You are completely arrogant in your willful ignorance and, in my opinion, you have been allowed too much slack when endlessly spouting your victim mentality views.

It’s well past time for you to step down from your bully-pulpit so the rest of us can let the healing begin. Until you pipe-down and quit the blame game its going to be much more difficult for the rest of us to focus on the real issues at hand for the improvement of the human race.

Now forward this on Mr. I Am White. If you dare.

It is about time that someone stood up to the few and I mean few that think with such single and simple mindedness. This is our world, a human world that unless we change our way of seeing people, human people, it will be a sad place for our children’s children. Thank you Voice of Golden Eagle for saying this which most of us only think.

I would rather sleep in the winter with my only blanket of warm stars than to ever sleep in the mansion.
I used to build houses this guy got so mad that i built houses for, just the reason he tried sell me one for 250,000 I told him I had no use for a house like that it was useless to me. My grand father once laughed said man one day will buy paper to wipe with now man gets so full himself he needs to put a butt washer (beday) besides his commode.
All in good humor.lol anyway this is just our temp home. Many blessings.
Just give me card board box or rest under the roof of the white fox or my double wide.
It would be safer and easier to sleep in the ghetto than under a rich man roof.
